I must say, I’m feeling pretty marvelous in my Monday.
This weekend was filled with good food, great friends and some intense fitness sessions, leaving me relaxed and ready to take on the week.
One of the highlights of the weekend was stumbling upon a new breakfast, lunch (brunch) and dinner spot by our house, Stir Market.
After taking Mr. Chow to the park for his morning romp, we were walking home when we noticed the restaurant, already bustling at 8:30 a.m. on a Sunday.
Intrigued, we decided to forgo my vegan pumpkin waffles (which have become a weekend regular) and try it out.
Inside, the restaurant has a — very appropriately — market-vibe.
It’s meant to feel like a “European food hall” and is comprised of various stations: an espresso bar where you order, a wine + craft beer bar, a display case with cold, pre-made salads, an artisan bakery, and a european rotisserie. It also features specialty food, wine and gifts.
For those familiar, it’s similar to Joan’s on 3rd or The Little Next Door.
After a long debate about the health-factor of a whole-wheat chocolate croissant, we decided on three breakfast items: the stir classic breakfast, steel cut oatmeal and the california avocado toast.
At about $6 each, I’d say both the toast and the oatmeal were good breakfast choices at fair prices.
The toast, which was comprised of avocado, olive oil and salt, was simple and delicious. I’m not sure what it usually comes on, but we requested multi-grain bread, which was very tasty.
The steel cut oats were pretty standard, served with dried fruit, flax seeds and brown sugar on the side. We paid $3 extra for “fresh berries” and received about a 1/4 C. of blueberries on top. I wasn’t exactly thrilled and probably wouldn’t make that choice again, but it was still good.
The breakfast plate was delish, and compared to standard breakfast plate prices around town of $12-$16, I’d say the price was also fair.
We chose two eggs over-easy, a chicken sausage and the rosemary potatoes. I’m not sure if these potatoes were roasted or fried (so I can’t weigh in on the healthiness) but they were phenomenal.
I piled the eggs on top of the avocado toast and enjoyed a makeshift breakfast sandy, which was also pretty incredible.
Overall, I’d say this is a fun spot to meet friends for a quick brunch (they also serve mimosas) and likely a great place to go for a casual dinner or to just grab a glass of wine and cheese.
Most importantly, they allow dogs on the patio.
I plan on visiting again soon to try their lunch and dinner menus — they have a brown rice bowl that has Whitney written all over it.
A few other highlights from the weekend include celebrating my friend Taryn’s 30th birthday at Malibu Wines.
A three-hour gab fest with my girlfriend Shenae at Irori Sushi in Marina Del Rey — their sashimi is on point.
Catching a Santa Monica sunset with my “blend” (blogger friend) Arman, visiting all the way from Australia.
And finally, enjoying a healthy dinner at Hugo‘s in WeHo with this amazing, inspiring group of Registered Dietitians.
